The Lawyers

Ellery Johannessen

Ellery Johannessen is the owner and Principal of Johannessen Law, PLLC.  His practice focuses on all manner of domestic relations and general civil litigation from pleading through trial.  Ellery has been named as Super Lawyers’ “Rising Stars” list in 2020 and 2022.

Ellery graduated magna cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2013.  During law school, he honed his advocacy skills by participating in moot court, interning for an associate judge on Maryland’s highest court, and participating in the school’s appellate advocacy clinic.

He then shifted to a general civil litigation firm in the busy Washington DC suburbs, practicing primarily family and foreclosure defense law.  He handled divorce and custody matters involving high conflict parties, products liability cases, complex intellectual property claims, and banking misconduct cases in both state and federal court.  Ellery also successfully defended homeowners against foreclosure actions and helped them to modify their mortgages to keep them in their homes.  He obtained sizeable settlements against national lending institutions for violations of federal banking statutes and equal credit opportunity laws.  He has successfully resolved disputes, real property disputes, construction defect claims, and cases across other disciplines.

Since relocating to Washington, Ellery has focused extensively on family law while also maintaining a civil litigation practice.

Ellery is an east coast native and transplant to the PNW.  He comes from a large, blended family.  Ellery and his wife and partner Stephanie made the move west in the summer of 2019 and are raising their children in King County.
